hey it’s ben S. i’m back. i forget that this site exists a lot of the time. anyway here are some more things i have been enjoying.
album:
peter from 2nd grade made a solo album. that seemed weird to me considering 2nd grade is basically a solo project already, but i can see why he wanted a different name for this one. lo-fi guitar/vocal tunes, pretty bare. reminded me of zach phillips if he played guitar instead of piano. alternately: like if “dusted” was GBV’s biggest hit.
movie:
i like brainiac but i’m not an expert on them. heck, i’d still say i prefer enon (but both bands are still really good). this was a cool doc, not unlike we jam econo in some respects. immediately after watching it i ran to my bedroom and put on some brainiac, but instead i put on the locust, a band commonly cited as one of the first to take inspiration from brainiac, albeit in a much heavier/visceral/aggressive direction. i can’t believe they came from the same city that gave the world Robert Pollard, Kim and Kelley Deal, and (yes) Lou Barlow.
game:
to the surprise of no one, i just finished chapter 4 of this turn based rpg from toby fox (aka “the amount of game that is available right now”). it’s great! the combat feels great even if i ACT the majority of the time. it’s maybe the funniest game i have ever played. the character arcs are engaging…no one who matters is viewed the same way at the end of ch4 as they are at the end of ch1.
anything else?
i don’t care about basketball. why? because i live in philly, and the 76ers have not given me any reasons to like them, and ultimately i am a big enough eagles fan that my interest in sports can be satiated by watching them on my couch. sometimes i’ll go to a phillies game (tomorrow, for instance) but i like baseball live more than on record. anyway i have been a huge jon bois fan since late 2017. i watched his boundary-pushing sports analyses/documentaries/etc (or whatever you want to call them) a LOT when i was recovering from wisdom teeth removal. many years later he’s only gotten better. this is his best work imo
